Name «Zhydyslav»

The Slavic personal name Zhydyslav has never been very popular. The earliest mention of this name dates back to 1217, when it was recorded on the southern slopes of the Ukrainian Carpathians, in the county of Szabolcs, under the name Sidizloupristaldus. It is also found in Novgorod, as evidenced by the patronymic Zhydyslavich associated with the personal name Boris, dated 1175. The name Zhydyslav is composed of the imperative form of the verb "zhdati," which means "to wait," and the name component "slav."
