Name «Zhelyslav»

The name Zhelyslav is formed by combining the verbal root "zhelyty," which means "to wish" or "to desire," and the noun "slava," meaning "glory." This name is known among Serbs and Croats. In records of Eastern Slavic writing, the name Zhelyslav is documented since 1226. For example, in 1262, Zhelyslav is mentioned as a boyar of Volodymyr-Volynskyi, the voivode Vasylko Romanovych and Volodymyr Vasylovych. In Poland, the name Żelislau, along with Żelibrat and Żelimysl, was used until the end of the Middle Ages.
