The name Vseslav has ancient Slavic origins and is composed of two roots: the demonstrative pronoun "vsey" meaning "all" and the noun "slav" meaning "glory" or "fame." Initially, it may have meant "lord of glory." This masculine name was most prominently represented in Belarus, particularly among the princes of Polotsk and Vitebsk. For example, Vseslav Bryachislavich was a prince of Polotsk and the Grand Prince of Kyiv (he is mentioned in historical chronicle sources). In the form "Vseslav," this name was known only to Czechs and Poles. In 1499, a settlement named Vseslav'ya was mentioned in the location of the village of Rudky. In Ukraine, the name Vseslav began to be used again only in 1967.
