Dictionary meaning
The less common diminutive formation derived from the shortened name Slava, which still retains a shade of diminutiveness. It has been recorded in Ukrainian written monuments since 1750: «Anna Slavykova from Kryvoshtiany» - a village in Strazhk (Hadzeha 3 78). Among the Poles, the name Sławik has been documented since the 12th century (SSNO V 111). In Slovakia, it is often associated with the appellative "slavik," which means 'nightingale'.
