Name «Shyp»

The name "Shyp" has Ukrainian colloquial origins, stemming from the apellative "shyp," which means "a sharp, hard protrusion on the stem of certain plants and objects." The earliest mentions of this name date back to the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 16th century. For example, in 1498, a record was found stating "Shypъ holop" (Tup 4, 4, 8), and in 1570 it appears under the name "Luc. Sip" in the village of N. Vorota (Chu Prizv. 626). In Polish lands, the anthroponym "Szyp" has been recorded since the 14th century.
