The name 'Ratko' is a truncation-suffix formation derived from two-syllable names such as Ratyslav or Ratmir. The first documented mention of the name Ratko dates back to 1552 when a servant of the Lutsk castle named Ratko is recorded in the archives (Arch. YZR ѴІІ/1 177). In 1666, Ratko Bokachenko and Ratko Ortemovych are mentioned (PK 367, 369, 391). Furthermore, in 1783, three families with the surname Ratko were recorded in the Galician Lemko village of Zavadka (Krasovsky 129). It is also worth noting that the name Rathko was used among the Ugalician Lemkos in 1520 (Wolnicz-Pawłowska 59). The name 'Ratko' appears among students of the Ruthenian secondary school in the city of Shyd in 1950 and 1961 (Mudry - Salamon 256, 260). In Poland, the name Ratko has been documented since the 13th century (SSNO IV 449), and among Serbs, it intertwines with the name Radko (Hrk 164). In Uzhgorod region, since the 13th century, there are two villages named Rativtsi (Dzzhe 267).
