Olodar is a name that originated from the spontaneous modification of the Ukrainian name Volodar in Hungarian. This change occurred by removing the initial letter "V," resulting in the transformation of the Ukrainian word Volodar into Aladár in the mouths of Hungarians. The earliest documented mention of the name without the initial "V" dates back to 1214 in the record "impetierunt duos servos Olodari,...seilicet Sudam et Volcu" from the Boršod county. It also appears in records from 1215: "impetierunt duos servos Olodarii," along with evidence of a peasant Olodaro in the same county. In 1220, it is mentioned as "Olodarius curialis comes de Zemlun," and in the 12th century, the names Mikula and Olodar are recorded in the Uzhhorod region.Researchers M. Maitanta and M. Povazhay believe that the name Aladár may have come to the Hungarians from Turkish, where its initial semantics meant "bodyguard."
