Name «Merko»

The name "Merko" originates from the Slavic double-base name Mehslav (Majtän Chronologia 177). The earliest mention of the name "Merko" relates to the village of Ruska, located in the Abaúj County, dating back to 1221 (Reg Var263). Subsequent mentions in the form of the anthroponym "Merche" can be found in the Transcarpathian villages of Nove Barovo and Uhlia in 1542 and 1550 (Belay 210, 216).
