The Slavic personal name Diian has survived to this day among Serbs as Dejan. M. Grkovich derives it from the full name Desimir or Desislav. In the Perechyn district of the Zakarpattia region, this name has a continuation in the surname Diyanych, which is first mentioned in 1756. In our opinion, this name is directly related to the surname Diian, which is currently widespread in the Lviv region. It derives from the passive participle "diyany," which comes from the word "diyaty" (to act), or from the feminine name of Latin origin, Diana, which means 'divine'.
