Name «Bran»

The name 'Bran' is a Slavic shortened form derived from ancient variants Branybor or Branimir. This name was already mentioned in 1459 in the city of Suceava. 'Bran' shares common roots with the Serbian names Branimir and Branislav. The name Branislav became popular among Ukrainians and Rusyns in Yugoslavia during the interwar period. Specifically, in 1957 in the city of Šid, a student named Branislav Pobranko was mentioned. Additionally, there is an oikonim Branivka in the Halych district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region and a mountain named Branova in the village of Zarynovo, which is located in the Perechyn district of the Transcarpathian region.
