According to M. Demchuk, the name "Balka" is an ancient Ukrainian suffix-derived name that likely originates from one of the composite names similar to the Bulgarian "Balosyn." In 1419, a nobleman named Stan f. Balk was recorded, who came from the village of Uhlia (Belay 2009). In 1415, a well-known serf named Balk from the village of Chornotyisovo is mentioned (Szabó, p. 338). This viewpoint is further supported by the existence of the personal name of a Cossack from the Bratslav regiment named Balka Kudnovsky, which was recorded in 1649 (RVZ, p. 254).
