Zvir is a Slavic personal name of newer origin. It likely derives from the word "zvir," which means "wild animal." Monostemic names with the root "zvir" exist in all Slavic languages, while bitemic forms are found only in Slovene. Most occurrences of the appellative "zvir" as a proper name date back to the 15th–16th centuries. For example, in 1545, the name Zver Tyshkovich is mentioned. Only among Alpine Slavs during the period of the 7th–14th centuries was a related derivative Z verev recorded for five individuals.
