The ancient Slavic personal name "Zubr" originates from the name of a large wild mammal from the cattle family. The earliest records of this name in Ukraine date back to the 15th century. For example, in 1412, the name "Zubrъ Yanechko" was recorded in the city of Halych. A patronymic "Zubrevicz Stecz" is also known from the village of Polyana in 1684. In Polish tradition, the name "Zubrz" has been known since the late 14th century.
