Zozulia is a Ukrainian apellative name given to a child in honor of the singing bird. Well-known two-part names from Ukrainian territories date back to the 15th - 17th centuries, and in most of them, the anthroponym "Zozulia" already functions as a surname, for example, Zozulia Ivan, Zozulia Petro. The only example where the anthroponym "Zozulia" still serves as a personal name with a surname comes from the environment of Zaporizhian Cossacks in 1649 — this designation refers to a Cossack from the Chyhyryn regiment — Zozula Panasenko. In 1661, in the Maramures village of Rus'kova, serfs Zazulya Demetr and Ivan are mentioned.
