The name Zhelybor is an ancient Slavic composite formation, consisting of two parts. The first part comes from the Serbian verb "želiti," which means "to wish" or "to desire." The second part is "bor," which translates as "to struggle" or "struggle." Thus, the name originally could have meant "one who desires to fight."This name is reflected in the toponym "Zhelybory" in the Halytskyi district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, recorded in documents from 1440 and 1515. In Ukraine, the name is mentioned since the 15th century, specifically in 1463 as "Żelibor" and in 1486 as "Andream Żelibor."The name was also known among Polish, Bulgarian, and some other Slavic peoples. In Ivano-Frankivsk region, the toponym "Zhelybory" was used from the 15th century until recently, sometimes changing to "Zhyalibory."
