Yasenka is a feminine personal name among Rusyns and Ukrainians in Yugoslavia. According to M. Grkovich, this name may have originated from the Serbian word for the tree "ash" (lat. fraxinus). As a proper name, the lexeme "Yasenka" began to be used among Rusyns and Ukrainians in Yugoslavia only in the mid-20th century. For example, in 1947, a high school student named Yasenka Tyrkailo was recorded in the city of Šid. It is also possible that the name "Yasenka" is a diminutive form of the feminine name "Yasna."
