The Ukrainian name Volodko (alongside its variant Volodyko) originated in the Middle Ages as a diminutive form associated with two-root Slavic names of the model Volodymyr, Volodyslav, or Vsevolod. For instance, in 1214, it is recorded as Volotcu de furto - the village of Shom in the Berehove area. In the 15th-16th centuries, the name Volodko became a neutral and independent name across all Ukrainian lands, even in Poland. Many ancient records of this name date back to the 15th-17th centuries: in 1458 - Mr. Volodko; in 1552 - Volodko Strelnikovich; in 1552 - Volodko Perehonavich from Cherkasy; in 1649 - the Cossacks of the Zaporizhian army Volodko Pinchuk, Volodko Donets, Volodko Moskal. Sometimes the name Volodko was recorded as Volotko or even Volodyko. From the name variant Volodko, patronymics were also formed, such as Mykola Volodkovych, Tymko Volodchenko, and Olesko Volodenko.
