Name «Tuky»

The morphology of the name Tuky is atypical for names of Slavic origin, although words belonging to the semantic group "fat" in Slavic anthroponymy are not rare. It is likely that this name is connected to the nickname from 1418 in Halych – Ivanko Tuchnyak, as well as to the surname of the Bila Tserkva Cossack Stenka Tuchenko, which is mentioned in 1654. The Old Rus name Tuky appears several times throughout the 11th century, notably in 1068 and 1078: Tuky, brother of Chyudyn – a Kyiv retainer. In Poland during the 15th century, the surname Tukh was mentioned several times, for example, in 1400 – Martinus Thuk, and in 1476 – Mathis Thuk.
