The name Troya is predominantly used as a surname in Ukraine (for example, in Uzhhorod). However, in medieval Poland, this name was also used as a personal name. For instance, in 1498, it was mentioned: "Nobilis Trogua de Zarogow heres" (SSNO V 467). In Croatia, the name Troja still exists as a colloquial form corresponding to the full name Trojan. According to M. Shimundich, the name has Slavic origins and derives from the verb "trojiti," meaning 'to triple, to multiply.'
