Name «Synievolod»

The personal name "Synievolod" originates from the names of the villages Verkhne and Nyzhne Syniovydne, located in the Skole district of Lviv Oblast. These names are recorded in 1240 and 1515 in the forms "v' Sinevolodsko" and "Szynowezko Inferior, Szynowezko Superior." The significant difference between the Old Ruthenian and Polish spellings of the name can be explained by the Polish administration's attempts to eliminate Ukrainian full vowel sounds from the Ukrainian name.
