Name «Svitloslav»

The name 'Svitloslav' is mentioned in some contemporary Ukrainian dictionaries, mistakenly linking it to the noun "svit" (meaning "world") (for example, Beley 76). It is more likely that it is derived from the Old Slavic appellative "svitlo" (meaning "light") and the component "-slav." The name Svitloslav is recorded in Ukraine in 1583, but not in the Ukrainian reflex of Ѣ; specifically: Svetoslavъ Lipskiy (Archive of Historical Sources in Ukraine ѴІІІ/3 1).
