Name «Stryboh»

The personal name of the ancient Slavic deity Stryboh has its roots in the Slavic language. According to M. Fasmer, Stryboh is borrowed from the Old Iranian language *Sribäya, which means 'the exalted god' (Fasmer III, 777). This name is related to the village of Strybizh in the Zhytomyr region and the modern Ukrainian surname Strybizh.
