The name 'Stroin' (genitive - Stroina) has Slavic origins. It is derived from the shortened name Stroya using the possessive suffix "-in". The name Stroya is recorded in the village of Koromlya, near Uzhgorod (now in the Slovak Republic), in the years 1362 and 1365 (source: Chu Prizv. 537).
