Name «Stoma»

The name "Stoma" is an abophonetic variant of the masculine name Istoma, which was used in the documents of Novgorod and Pskov. It may also be a shortened version of the Slavic name Stomir, known to the Poles in the 12th century. If we assume that the first explanation is correct, then the name originally meant "fatigue." The name "Stoma" is mentioned several times in Ukrainian records from the 16th to 17th centuries. For example, in 1552, Stoma Trubach from the town of Oster is mentioned, and in 1620, Stoma Rydko from the village of Kryvin.
