Name «Stanets»

Stanets is a name formed by adding the diminutive-sounding suffix -ets to the shortened form of the name Stan. This name appears among Polish-Latin records of male names of Ukrainian peasants in Galicia from the 15th century under the form Stanyecz (Shulovska, 19). In 1546, the name Staniecz is also recorded in other Latin inscriptions (Archive of the South-Western Region, VI, 177). In Polish territories, this name began to be documented from the 14th century (SSNO, V, 176-177). The name Stanets also has ancient records among Serbs (Grk, 175).
