Name «Rozhen»

The name "Rozhen" originates from the name of the village Rozhiv, located in the Kosiv district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The earliest mention of the village Rożniow dates back to 1424, and the second mention is from 1579. The toponym (place name) is a derived formation from the anthroponym Rozhen (compare with the Polish Rożen). The original meaning of the anthroponym likely refers to 'a stick with a sharp end.'
