Name «Rostko»

The name Rostko was formed through a truncation-suffix method from the two-root name Rostislav or from another name with a similar structure, such as the Serbian name Rastimir or the Polish name Roscigniew. There is also a version suggesting that the name Rostko could have originated from a simple suffixation of the truncation Rost, which has been documented in the Polish language since the 14th century. For example, in 1303, the name Hermano dieto Rost is mentioned, and in 1416, Joannis Rost appears in materials from Kalisz. In the Ukrainian language, the names Rostek and Rosta correspond to the name Rostko, which are more common forms.
