The masculine personal name Rad’ derives from the name Rad and the patronymic Rad’evych, documented in the village of Oltyshkiv in Bukovina in 1424. The latter is also mentioned in the same years, for example, in 1445: "and from that Rad’ev... to serve" – in the village of Olkhovets. In 1565, a serf named Rad’ was recorded in the village of Fanchikovo. In Polish sources, the anthroponym Radź first appears in the 15th century, for example, in 1442: Clisch cum Radź de Dobra. The first records of the name Rad are also found in Serbian sources. In Eastern Slovakia, microtoponyms such as Radyov still exist today, for instance, in the Ukrainian village of Ublya, near the town of Berezno.
