The name Puytko is a diminutive formation with the suffix -ko, originating from East Slavic names such as Putymir and Putyata. It is documented twice among the graffiti of the Slavic population (table 117, 203; Vysotsky 142) in the forms Puytko and Puytkovy. There is also a record from 1715 from the village of Sokirnytsia in Transcarpathia mentioning a serf named Re.Putyiko (Belay 195).
