Name «Predo»

The name 'Predo' is a secondary Slavic (Southern or Western) formation that arose among Serbs, Czechs, and Poles as a result of apocope (the removal of the ending) of such compound names as Predivoy, Predidrag, Predislav, Predpolk, and others. The initial part of the name traces back to the Proto-Slavic noun *perdb, which means 'before.' In Ukrainian tradition, the name Predo is reproduced based on a surname recorded in 1682: Predovits Jaczko from the village of Stavne.
