The name "Poznyk" is derived from the adjective "pozdnъ," which means "late," and shares a common root with the name "Pozdnyak." The formation of this name occurred through the use of the substantivizing suffix "-ik," similar to names like "Holyk," "Dobryk," "Svitlyk," and others. The earliest mention of this name is recorded in 1552, when it was borne by a resident of Vinnytsia Castle named Poznyk Kryvodyristov (OVZ 605). In 1649, the name appears again, this time in the context of a Cossack from the Kropyvnyanskyi regiment named Hrytsko Poznyk (RVZ 364).
