Name «Ploskyna»

The name "Ploskyna" likely originates from a Ukrainian colloquial name formed from the adjective "plosky," which means "shallow, flattened," using the Ukrainian dialectal suffix "-yna," similar to surnames such as "Dovgyna." In ancient Russian written records, the anthroponym "Ploskyna / Ploskyna" is mentioned as early as 1223 as the name of a leader of the brodniks. In 1649, a character named Ploskyna Ivan is referenced in the village of Ploskanovitsa, located in Svalyava. In the 18th century, the same village records several instances of a judge named Ploskyna. In Polish-Latin written sources, anthroponyms with the root "płosk-" appear from the 15th century, for example, "Waschyl Płosky," "Wadium inter Ploskye," and "Phalislaum Plosky." In the city of Vilnius in 1495, the anthroponym "Semyon Ploshevich" is documented. Russian researchers have identified the anthroponym "Ploskina" under the year 1227, supporting the linguist M.
