Name «Pechyrih»

Gender name: Pechyrh. It is believed that this nickname is composed of the verb root "pech" (to bake) and the noun "righ" (horn). It was mentioned in 1446 in the city of Suceava: "six servants of Gypsies named Brălădean and Pechyrh with their wives" (SSUM II 150). It is possible that this naming is a distorted variant of one of the Polish anthroponymes from the 14th - 15th centuries, such as Pieczygroch or Pyeczygrochowie (SSNO IV/2 234), which arose as a result of pharyngealization or complete reduction of the closed /d/.
