The name 'Pazukha' is a familial and domestic term derived from the noun 'pazukha', which means 'space between clothing and the chest' (Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language, vol. VI, p. 15). In Latin and Polish sources, the anthroponym 'Johannes dictus Pazucha' has been recorded since 1411 (Dictionary of Ancient Names of Ukraine, vol. IV, p. 2, p. 207). In eastern Volhynia, a serf named Pazokha Ivan is mentioned in 1620 (Sources on the History of Ukraine, p. 382). In Transcarpathia, the anthroponym 'Pazukha' was first recorded in 1673; for example, the diminutive 'Pazuska' appears in the city of Vynohradiv (Szabó, p. 424). This name is also the origin of the Ukrainian surname 'Pazukhanich' (Chu, Surnames, p. 424).
