The surname Ovsianyk is mentioned as early as 1470: "Оное да Овсяникъ" (ССУМ II 74). Additionally, in 1552, an Ovsianyk Derkolovsky is recorded as a landowner from Kremenets (Арх ЮЗР VII/2 24). In 1618, an individual named Ivan Ovsianyk appears from the village of Dernina near the Slovak Tatras (Marsina 86). In 1680, a person named Oleksa Vosianyk is already mentioned as a church elder in the village of Osiy (Чу Прізв. 117). Also, in 1773, Ioan Vusianyk is noted in the village of Kholmovech in the Vynohradiv region (Szabó 293). In 1803, Michael Vüszanik is recorded as a Greek Catholic priest in the town of Maria-Povch in Hungary (Ud Ad II 384).Throughout the 15th - 16th centuries, the name Ovsianyk was also frequently mentioned in Russia. For instance, Ovsianyk Omelyanov, Ovsianyk Mokhnachev, Ovsianyk Kirilov, and others (Туп 285).
