Name «Osmomysl»

**Osmomysl** is an ancient Slavic two-root personal name, composed of the numeral -osm- 'eight' (compare with the Polish name from the 15th century Osmo-rog) and the noun root -mysl- (compare with the name Dobromysl). The name is formed by analogy to the Slavic naming pattern Semimysl, as by the end of the 12th century this word among Slavs was more associated with the magical number seven than with the noun family. There is also a comparison with the Polish name from the 13th century Siemimysl.The component osm- in the name Osmomysl is likely a relic of the Indo-European word for "eight" (octo), which originally meant 'two fours in total'.
