The name "Nizhata" is revived based on the recorded oikonim of the Pereyaslav land, Nizhatyn, from 1078, as well as the entry of the anthroponym from 1138, Nizhata Tverdjatiča, and the Novgorodian entry from 1200, Ratimir Nizhatynič. All the mentioned anthroponyms are truncated-suffix formations derived from the two-root names Negodomyry or Negoslav.
