As the authors of the referenced work convincingly demonstrate, the personal name "Neznan" is also known in other Slavic regions (for example, in Russia during the 14th-15th centuries). It represents an archaic form of the passive participle "neznańy," meaning "unknown," similar to Ukrainian names such as Bazhan, Zhdan, and Poznani. Additionally, it is worth noting the patronymic surname of the Cossack from the Cherkasy regiment in 1649 - Martyn Neznansky.
