According to D. Bohdan, the name 'Moiko' is a truncated-suffix Slavic name that originates from one of the dual-root names, such as Moimir or Moslav, with the addition of the diminutive form -ko (Bohdan 67-68). A less likely version associates this name with the ancient Hebrew Moses. The earliest Ukrainian records of this name date back to the 15th century. In 1415, the name Moiko is mentioned (Bohdan 261), and in a record from 1442, we read: "and there is a Věrapana Moika and his brother Tador" - in the city of Suceava (SSUM 1607). In 1448, there is a record about the noble Tador Moichyn in the city of Khotyn (SSUM I 607). In 1466, it is noted that "we sold to our servants Moik and his brother" - in the village of Dolyny Toh (same source).
