The name 'Mankzh' is a Ukrainian diminutive form with the suffix '-uk', which originates from the shortened Slavic bipartite name model Manislav or from the calendar name of Old Testament origin, Emanuel. The oldest Ukrainian record of this name dates back to 1552: Maniuk Belikowicz (OZHZ 149). There is also a record of a Cossack from the Kropyvnyanskyi regiment, Manuyk Bartoshenko (RVZ 359).
