Name «Liudomyr»

The name Liudomyr derives from the root "liud-" (meaning 'people') and the suffix "-myr" (which can be interpreted as 'peace' or 'world'). According to research conducted by L. H. Skrypnyk and N. P. Dzyatkivska, this name is a Slavicized form. According to M. Knapova, Liudomyr is a calque from the German name "Mannfred." In Ukraine, the name Liudomyr is more commonly found among the Polish population. For instance, historical documents from 1389 mention "Uxoris Ludomeri." This name is rare among Slavic names and is associated with the Podhalan toponym "Ludźmierz," which also contains the root "liud-" and the suffix "-myr." According to M. Knapova's research, the name "Ludmir" was also used among Czechs and Slovaks.
