Name «Liud»

The Slavic name Liud originated as a shortened form of one of two main names: Liudmyla, Liudoslav, or Zaliud. The semantic meaning of the root "liud" denotes "people" or "nation." In Novgorod, the name Liudota was formed from this root. In the Ukrainian-speaking area, the male name Liud is first documented in the Vardynska registers of 1234: "videlicet Petro filio Lud" - Comitatus Bihor (Reg Var 302). From the name Liud, patronymics were formed quite early. For example, in 1588, the name Liudovych was recorded (Arch YZR VI/1 190), and in 1666, the name Liudych was noted (PK 274).
