Lekh

Dictionary meaning

The personal name Lech is often associated with the name of the legendary forefather of the Poles: "primogentis Lech, alter Rus, tertius Czech nomina haberunt" (SSNO III/2 237). According to other hypotheses, the Polish name Lech is a derivative of the not empirically confirmed two-root masculine name Lъstislav or Lъstimir, in the structure of which the verb льстити 'to flatter, to ingratiate' is preserved (Bubak 190 - 191). In 1437, the name Lech is mentioned in the context: "the serf Cozmas filius Leh" in the village of Porostov, located in Eastern Slovakia (Nagy I 341).
