The name "Kniahynia" is an ancient Slavic feminine name, which shares similarities with the modern Serbian name Kћегина. This name is essentially a title for a woman, derived from a personal name. A similar transformation occurred in Transcarpathia, where since 1582 "Kniahynia" has been used as the name of a village in the Velikiy Berezny district (officially named Knyahyn). It is worth noting that in the Carpathians of the 16th century, the term "Kniahynia" no longer referred to the wife of a prince but came to denote the wife of a priest.
