The name "Khudko" has its roots in Polish-Latin records of Eastern Galicia, dating back to 1416. In these sources, the name is mentioned in the form "Hudko debet dare Martino" (SSNO II 321-322). In 1427, "Stephanus Hutko de Wischaw" also records this name (same source). In Cyrillic monuments of Ukrainian literature, "Khudko" is mentioned since the 16th century. For instance, in 1565, there is a reference to a person named "Khudko Zavaда" (OKZR III 160). That same year, there is a mention of the Latinized record "Chudko Duma" (LHS 161). In the 18th century, on Lemkivshchyna, variants like "Chudio," "Chudko," and others appeared among the used Ukrainian surnames (Kras 159). The Slavic name "Khudko" is formed by truncating the two-root names "Khudymyr" or "Khudyslav" with the addition of the suffix "-ko."
