The name "Karaslav" has its roots in the forgotten names of a medieval settlement in Transcarpathia from the 15th century. This settlement had two parts: Karaslov (in Hungarian - Felso Karaszló and Alsó Karaszló). According to modern nomenclature, these territories are now officially named Greblia and Zarichchia. Experts suggest that the name Karaslav is a distorted version of the ancient Slavic personal name Koryslav.
