The name Hrymyslav is a masculine name of Slavic origin. Ukrainian dictionaries of personal names do not mention this name, instead indicating only the feminine equivalent—Hrymyslava, and that only in the index of outdated and seldom-used names. The compilers of the publication "The Tale of Bygone Years" (Kyiv, 1989) oddly add the variant Hremyslav as the last option, presumably influenced by the Russian spelling Hremyslav. The name Hrymyslav certainly has Slavic origins: it is composed of the verb "grymyty" or "hrymaty" (to rumble) and the noun "slava" (glory). However, some Polish linguists are more inclined to see it as an old Polish calendar name of Latin origin—Pielgrzym.
