**Description of the Name 'Hrim'**

The name Hrim has a long history, with its first written mention in Rus' dating back to 944 AD. It is connected to the nobleman Sfirka Uleberovych, who undertook an embassy for Prince Igor Rurikovich to the Greeks. In 1363, the name Marcus Hrom was noted in Polish territories, featuring the fricative sound "h." In the 15th century, related anthroponyms such as Gromisław and Gromisłaus were also documented, along with several other derivative forms, like Fedor Hromicz de Pleszowice (1471), Hromysh, Hromko, Hromnyk.

Mentions of the name Hrim in Ukraine can be found in records from the 16th and 17th centuries. For instance, in 1552, the anthroponym Nhot was registered in the city of Lutsk, in 1563 – Iwan Grom in the city of Kremenchuk, and in 1620 – Hrom Kozel in the village of Naraivka. The root Grom- also appears in forms such as Hrom, Hromko, Hromenko, Hromylo in Lemkivshchyna at the end of the 18th century. Besides Ukraine, names with the root Grom are found in Belarus, Russia, and the Czech Republic.

Etymologically, the lexeme Hrim has a Proto-Indo-European origin and refers to the well-known atmospheric phenomenon caused by electrical discharges. Through Slavic tradition, this word also came to be used to denote the thunder god Perun, and later transferred to people. For example, notable personal names like Hromyslav, and the surname of Colonel Mykhailo Hromyka from the Bila Tserkva regiment are well-known.
