The Ukrainian name Hodyn, as well as the Serbian name Godin, derives from the root Goda and the suffix -in. For example, in 1648 there is a mention of the serf Driszleuich Hadin from the village of V. Vorota (Maksay 550). Starting from the 16th century, the root Hodyn is often encountered in the surnames of Ukrainians. For instance, in 1570, serfs Mat. and Alex. Hodinka are mentioned from the village of V. Vorota (Maksay 53-54). In 1699, Hodinka Andras from the village of Pidhoryany is referenced (Maksay 555), and in 1755 — Hodinchuk Fteodor from the village of Dilove (Pa-Po III11). Additionally, there is a village named Hodyn in the Ratne district of Volhynia (Shulhach 33), and the surname Hodinko in Transcarpathia has been known since the 17th century (ChuPrizv. 147). For example, in 1648 there is a reference to Hadinka Mihal from the village of V. Vorota (Maksay 556).
