Name «Gorzov»

The name Gorzov is a phonetic variant of the South Slavic personal names Grozav, Groz, Grožo, Grozo, or Groza, which among Bulgarians and Serbs was intended to serve a deterrent function. A similar function was also performed by the names Groz, Groza, and Grozim among Ukrainians in Transnistria during the 14th to 20th centuries. For example, in 1493, in the city of Suceava, it was recorded: "our servants Patrou Dănău and his brother Grozav." In 1572, the nobles Nyzthor and Sim. Gorzo were mentioned in the village of Vodyane.
